Red Oak is a city in Ellis County, Texas with a total area of 15.0 square miles. One of the first settlers to this area was James E. Patton and his family in 1844. They settled in what is now known as Ovilla, Texas, located about two miles from Red Oak. Before Red Oak was given its name in 1849, it was known as Possum Trot due to the many possums that lived there. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad began near the Red Oak area in 1884 and was completed in 1890.

Catch-A-trout, is a FREE kids fishing event! This is a great opportunity for Red Oak and surrounding area families to introduce their kids to fishing. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place medals will be given out in each age group for the largest Trout caught at 11:15 AM. Each parent/guardian is in charge of keeping a record of weight per Trout caught. An annual FREE Movies in the Park series takes place each Spring with three movie nights. The movie events are held at the Red Oak Municipal Center (200 Lakeview Pkwy).

The annual FREE Red Oak White and Blue is full of food, fun, and fireworks for the whole family. With a live DJ, bounce houses, face painting, food trucks, and a spectacular Fireworks Display, it is a community event you will not want to miss. The Red Oak Fall Festival is a spooktacular event for the whole family! With games, rides, a costume contest and of course lots of candy from our Truck-or-Treat, this is an event you won't want to miss. Christmas in Red Oak kicks off with the Winter Wonderland Parade. Featuring holiday floats, decorated vehicles and ATV's, Public Safety vehicles, ISD Marching Bands, Drill Teams and Cheerleaders, and so much more from Red Oak and the surrounding area. FREE Pictures with Santa will be available in the Watkins Park Gazebo following the Parade.
