Lewisville is a city in Denton County, that barely overlaps with Dallas County, Texas with a total area of 42.47 square miles. In 1844, John W. King and his wife settled on the east side of the prairie, where the city now lies. Baptist settlers from Platte County, Missouri, settled on the west side; among them were John and James Holford, who named the area Holford's Prairie. Further south, Presbyterians established a church and called it Flower Mound. In the confusion over land ownership after the Hedgcoxe War, Basdeal Lewis purchased Holford's Prairie in 1853 and renamed it after himself.

Public Art is art that is visually or physically accessible to the public and that is acquired by or donated to the City of Lewisville. It can take forms such as sculpture, integrated design in functional pieces and facilities, murals and temporary or permanent exhibitions. It enhances design and creates connections expressing shared values and ideas about Lewisville and its unique qualities as a community. Lewisville has more than 17 pieces of outside public art displayed throughout the city plus seven murals and crosswalks. Lewisville has also participated in the artists program for traffic signal boxes. Indoor public art is displayed at the Visitor Information Center, Municipal Annex, Lewisville Grand Theater and Lewisville Public Library.

The Special Events division manages all major citywide special events, including the popular Western Days festival, Holiday Stroll, Sounds of Lewisville summer concert series, and ColorPalooza. Many other minor activities are offered through the Parks Department.

Lewisville Grand Theater is devoted to celebrating local artists as well as bringing in talent from throughout Texas and across the U.S. for the betterment and entertainment of the community. The building itself is a testament to that goal with its state-of-the-art performance hall, spacious black box theater, dance recital hall, beautiful art gallery, and versatile classroom spaces. Since its opening in 2011, The Grand has served as Southern Denton County's home for the visual and performing arts as well as a sought-after location for hosting a variety of educational, corporate, and social events.
