Frisco is a city in Collin and Denton counties in the U.S. state of Texas with an area of 62.4 sq mi. When the Dallas area was being settled by American pioneers, many of the settlers traveled by wagon trains along the Shawnee Trail. This trail became the Preston Trail, and later Preston Road. The new railway, St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, needed watering stops for the locomotives but the current settlement of Lebanon had too high an elevation to support a watering stop so a location was chosen a few miles west. The town was originally named Emerson but the U.S. Postal Service rejected this name. In 1904 town residents chose Frisco City as the town name which as later shortened to Frisco.
