Westlake is a town in Denton and Tarrant Counties in the state of Texas with a total area of 6.7 square miles. The area known as Westlake was originally settled in 1847 by Charles and Matilda Medlin with about 20 other families. In the mid-twentieth century, what is now Westlake was known as Circle T Ranch, a 2,000 acre ranch founded by Dallas attorney and oilman J. Glenn Turner. When incorporated in the late 1950s, the name Southlake, Texas already existed, so ranchers and homeowners took the name Westlake.
The Town of Westlake hosts many events throughout the year. We hope that you and your family will plan to attend one or more of the events listed below.
MasterWorks Free Concert Series
Held annually each spring, typically on Thursday evenings, in the Solana Village Circle Courtyard, the MasterWorks Free Concert Series is jointly hosted by the Arts Council Northeast, Cushman-Wakefield (property managers of The Plaza), and the Town of Westlake.
Arbor Day
Held annually each spring, Arbor Day promotes tree conservation. Whether a large family event held on a Saturday or a series of smaller gatherings or stationed opportunities throughout the year that may include educational demonstrations, free tree giveaways, or a dedicated planting day, Arbor Day/Tree City USA events in Westlake help ensure our community members understand how important trees, and their preservation, are to the Town of Westlake.
Decoration Day
Held annually on Memorial Day in May, Decoration Day is a special time to honor those men and women who have lost their lives in service to our great nation and thank their families, and all who have served - past and present.
Vintage Classic Car Show
Held annually on the third Saturday in October, the Westlake Vintage Classic Car Show is a great time to discover the Golden Era of the Automobile. This is a car show for vintage classic original or restored-to-original automobiles, trucks, and pickups for 1909-1959 models only.
Community Tree Lighting
Historically held annually (2004 - 2015) the first Thursday following Thanksgiving, the Community Tree Lighting is a free community event with music, warm beverages, and family fun while citizens light up the town tree on the Westlake Academy campus. While this event paused in 2016, many residents missed our small town holiday gathering so plans were made to bring this hometown event back in 2017 with a move to Solana. The new Westlake Tree Lighting took place in the beautiful Solana Plaza and included several new activities such as carriage rides, reindeer petting zoo, cake-walk, local tastings from area restaurants, and as always - cookie decorating, hot beverages from teg Marriott Solana Hotel, live musical performances, photos with Santa, and other special holiday characters.
Historical Marker Dedication Days
Held periodically in the spring and/or fall, an informative dedication program is held on a local site in Westlake, previously identified by the Westlake Historical Preservation Society, as having strong historical roots in the development of Westlake and the surrounding Cross Timbers region.
The MasterWorks Music Series in April is a variety of free music performances sponsored by the Town of Westlake and the ARTS Council Northeast and in partnership with Cushman- Wakefield, property manager of Solana. Concerts feature instrumental and vocal music ranging from Country and Western to Blues to Jazz with the entertainment of local, regional, and national artists. All concerts are free, open to the public, and enjoyed by music lovers of all ages!
The Solana Business Park, built in the 1980s and designed by famous architect Ricardo Legorreta, was the first of its kind for the DFW Metroplex. At its inception, the Solana Business Park housed the IBM Corporation with more than 1,000,000 square feet of office space. Today, the Solana Business Park contains a variety of over 30 businesses and a few restaurants (Sip Stir Coffee, Pizzeria La Scala, and Mar-Cosina) that brings in a daytime population of over 3,000 employees. The properties are also home to the Solana Marriott Hotel as well as the Solana Fitness Club operated by Larry North. Currently, the Westlake Town Hall and municipal court is located in the Solana Terrace portion of the business park.
