Mansfield is a city in the state of Texas, and is located mostly in Tarrant county, with small parts in Ellis and Johnson counties with a total area of 36.4 square miles. When Ralph Sandiford Man and Julian Feild arrived around 1856 and built a grist mill at the crossroads that was to become the center of Mansfield, the beginnings of the community probably existed in the oak groves bordering Walnut Creek. In 1856, Julian Feild purchased 540 acres in the Mansfield area. Man and Feild completed their three-story brick grist mill sometime between 1856 and 1859. The mill, which produced flour and meal, was the first built in North Texas to utilize steam power and enjoyed patronage as far south as San Antonio and as far north as Oklahoma.

The Mansfield Historical Museum and Heritage Center in downtown Mansfield Texas. The History Museum features displays and artifacts from the early settlers in Mansfield. It is located in the beautifully restored William Burney (WB) McKnight Building. The building is named for Dr. William Burney McKnight, one of Mansfield's first physicians.

More than 125 years ago, Ralph Man and Julian Feild built a gristmill as the crossroads of Main and Broad Streets. That one business blossomed into a community, forming the town they called Mansfield. One of the oldest intact downtowns remaining in the state, these blocks have evolved along with the city, from mud to stone, from commerce hub to retail destination. Nearly 80,000 people and over a century of growth later, the Downtown corridor has retained its charm and is now enjoying a renaissance. With a burgeoning arts and small business community, friendly faces and southern soul, Historic Downtown Mansfield is ready to welcome you home.

Mansfield has a number of annual special events including the Barks & Rec 5K, Haunted Mansfield, Hometown Holidays, Juneteenth Celebration, Mansfield Rocks (4th of July celebration), Music Alley Music & Arts Festival, Rockin Kids Tri (swimming event for kids), Snowman Run 5K and Veterans Day Parade and Salute.
